Community Games

Three athletes from Waterford won medals at the National Community
Games finals in Athlone IT Grounds on Sunday last. Neasa Murphy was
second in the high jump u 16 and in the same age group Orla Queally
was third in the 1500 metres both from Dunhill/ Fenor Community, Laura
Miller An Ghaeltacht/ Ardmore Community was third in the 100 metres u
10.

Joe's good effort.

At the European Masters Track and Field Championships in Zittau in
Germany last week Joe Gough West Waterford AC finished sixth in the
800 Metres final on Friday in a time of 2 minutes 14.64 seconds, the
race was won by Zhavdot Zagitou from Russia in 2 minutes 10.17 seconds
and Joe was just 0.65 of a second away from the bronze medal position.
On Wednesday he had made it to the final by finishing second in his
heat in 2.18.98. Also at the championships Ken Deevy, Kilkenny City
Harriers was second in the 400 metres over 55 in a time of 55.90
seconds, he is well known in WIT.

Road Race

This Friday August 31 st 7.30 pm the Gensyme 5 Miles Road Race Starts
at "The Gensyme Factory" a mile out from Waterford City on Old
Kilmeaden Rd, Entries from 6.30 pm at Gensyme or register on
www.runireland.com and proceeds to MS Ireland.

County Wexford Sports

Macamores AC Open Sports in Realt Na Mara GAA Field Ballygarrett, Co
Wexford on Sunday September 9 th races and field events for boys and
girls under 8, 10,12,14,16 Relays u 10,12,14 plus senior men and women
1500 Metres first event at 1 pm. The venue is on the Courtown to
Kilmuckridge Road outside Gorey.

Munster Cross Country Fixtures

Munster Juvenile Even Age, U/23 and Novice Cross Country
Championships, Beaufort, Co. Kerry on Sunday 21st October 2012.
Munster Juvenile Uneven Age and Intermediate Cross Country
Championships, Waterford venue on Sunday 11th November 2012.

Unveiling of Plaque

This Thursday August 30 th at 8 pm a plaque will be unveiled in
Kilmacthomas in honour of a great sportsman and athlete of the past
Percy Kirwan. In the early part of the nineteenth century Percy was
one of the finest athletes of his era. He won three British AAA Long
Jump tiles in succession 1910,1911 and 1912, he won the 100 and 200
metres and long jump at the International Catholic Games in Rome in
1908 and also won 11 All Ireland titles,  8 under GAA rules and 3
under IAAA rules in various events such as sprints, hurdles, long and
triple jump. Between 1884 and 1922 two bodies held All Ireland titles
the GAA and the Irish Amateur Athletics Association .Percy also like
his four  brothers excelled at many sports and also in the
organisation of them especially in the Kilmacthomas area he died in
1969 aged 88.

Waterford Course

.September 13th – High Jump + Hurdles Workshop – Waterford 6.30 –
8.30pm Open to all Coaches and athletes over 12.
Venue: The RSC, Cork Road, Waterford. Cost: €5 per Athlete/Coach
