Ferrybank AC athletes shine in Athlone.

Sunday last saw the first major fixture on the new State of the Art
Indoor Arena at Athlone IT and athletes from Ferrybank AC won five of
the events staged at the AAI Games. Kelly Proper had a double in the
Long Jump with 6.04 metres and the 60 Metres in 7.55 seconds, Niamh
Whelan won the 200 Metres in 24.43 seconds and was second in the 60
Metres behind Kelly Proper in 7.57 seconds. Sorcha Murphy won the High
Jump with 1.65 Metres, Sean Archer the Triple jump with 13. 69 Metres
a personal best. Probably the best performance  came from Thomas Barr
who was second in the 400 metres with a personal best time of 47.44
seconds and Shane O'Dwyer was second in the High Jump with 1.95 Metres
. On Saturday in Athlone Cormac McCann was third in the All Ireland
under 16 Combined Events.

 Another Sub 4 Minute mile by McCarthy

Competing at the Boston University Invitational Indoor meeting on
Saturday last in the mile event David McCarthy West Waterford AC was
second in a time of 3 minutes 57.22 seconds  a new personal best, the
race was won by current top American miler Galen Rupp in 3 minutes
50.92 seconds the second fastest time by an American . At the same
meeting in a 3000 metres race Shane Quinn Ferrybank AC was second in 8
minutes 1.09 seconds and in the same race Kevin Cooper do was 8 th in
8.09.73 and both of these had personal best times also

Dublin winner of Dungarvan 10 miles

1700 competed on Sunday last in the 22 nd Annual John Treacy
Dungarvan 10 Miles Road Race and Gary O'Hanlon Clonliffe Hrs was the
overall winner in a very keenly contested event both in the men's and
women's sections, O'Hanlon was timed at 51 minutes 21 seconds, 8
seconds clear of Philip Harty West Waterford AC and Andrew Connick
Ferrybank AC was third a further 20 seconds back. Lizzie Lee Leevale
won the ladies race in 57 .35, Clare Gibbons McCarthy St Finbarr's was
second in 57.5 7and Niamh Devlin DSD was third in 59.10. Full Details

Waterford dominate East Munster's

At WIT in Carriganore on Thursday last the East Munster Secondary
Schools Cross Country Championships were held and athletes from
Waterford schools won six of the eight individual titles on offer,
three in the boys and three in the girls. The girls to win were Mollie
Hutchinson Ursuline Convent Minor, Hannah Power Ard Scoil na nDeise
Junior and Aisling Quinn Ursuline Intermediate and boys Shane O'Brien
St Declan's Kilmacthomas Minor, Miceal Power St Augustine's Junior and
Sean Curran CBS Dungarvan Intermediate, second placings went to Emma
Hallahan St Augustines Minor, Rachel Butler Ursuline Convent Senior,
Patrick Walsh CBS Dungarvan Minor and Jonathan Crowley De La Salle
Junior and third placings were secured by Meg Ryan Scoil San Nioclas
Junior, Eoin Browne CBS Dungarvan Intermediate and Eoin O'Brien
Blackwater Community School Junior. Team prizes were won by CBS
Dungarvan Minor and Intermediate boys, De La Salle College Junior Boys
and St Augustine's Junior girls.

  St Paul's Parish 5 Miles on Sunday

On Sunday next February 3 rd the Second Annual 5 Miles Road Race and
Walk in aid of St Paul's Parish in the city has a 1 pm start from The
Park Inn, Lismore Park Waterford. Entries at the venue from 12 noon
and all competing come dressed in your running gear, Paddy Byrne
winter League continues this Thursday at 7 pm from RSC.

Credit Union Award

On Saturday next at the Tower Hotel  Waterford the Combined Credit
union Young Athlete of the Year will be announced by special guest
Olive Loughnane Olympic Race Walker. The twelve monthly winners for
2012 were Anne Corcoran, Aisling Quinn, Ben Kiely, Orlaith O'Brien,
Sorcha Murphy, Orla Queally, Eoin Browne and Orna Murray Ferrybank,
Kate Veale, Kate Hickey Aoife Hamilton West Waterford and Bronagh
Kearns St Senans. The age groups for the awards are under 13 to under
19.
