Two AAI Games winners in Santry

On Sunday last at the AAI Games in Santry Stadium Dublin two athletes
from Waterford had fine victories competing against the best in the
country..Niamh Whelan ran her best race for some time when she won the
200 metres in 23.70 seconds which is inside the qualifying standard
for the World University Games later this season,she also finished
second in the 100 metres in 12.04. Thomas Houlihan West Waterford AC
had a personal best in winning the pole vault with 4.60 metres, Niall
Tuohy  was second in the 800 metres in 1.50.45 and Sorcha Murphy third
in the high jump with 1.60 metres both Ferrybank..

Many Munster juvenile winners

Ennis was the venue on Saturday and Sunday last for the Munster u 9 to
11 team competitions and under 12 and 13  championships and there were
many medals won by athletes from Waterford clubs. For Ferrybank AC the
following won individual titles, Michael Mulligan under 12 javelin,
Tom Gallagher u 13 long jump, girls under 12 relay team, Praise Owoye
and Paula Igwee won the under 11 60 m team with Praise first
individual and Paula third, silver medals winners were Tom Gallagher u
13 high jump, bronze medal winners were David Igwee and Robbie Duffy
in team sprint u 9, Kylie Heinen  u 12 high jump and David Igwee and
Keegan Borla javelin team u 9.For Waterford AC Jack Deegan and Victory
Eddy won the 60 m team competition with Jack first individual, there
was also a first for Jack Deegan and Evan Hayes in the u 11 long jump
team with Jack first individual, in the javelin team the girls u 10
Sarah Heery and Emer Walsh were second and Sarah won the individual
award, Shane Cawley was second in the u 12 shot putt the boys u 11
relay team were also second and Lindsey McGuire was third in the 600
metres u 13, in the javelin team competition under 9 Lydia Rowe and
Melanie Buck were third and Lydia was third overall, in the 60 metres
team u 10 Jack Corcoran and Fortune Eddy were third, other good
performances came from Sarah Jacob in the shot putt under 12 and  Emer
McGlynn 600 m u 12,both fourth

Maher wins in Kilmacow

250 competed in the Little South 4 miles road race in Kilmacow on
Sunday last and it was a terrific race up front with Brian Maher
Kilkenny City Hrs holding on to beat Alan O'Shea Bantry and Philip
Harty West Waterford was not far behind in third spot. Jacqui Carthy
Kilmore won the ladies section from Sylvia Malone Waterford and Grace
McConnell Ballyroan/Abbeyleix was third.  Details;

Bantry athlete wins in Carrick on Suir.

Race 3 in the Outfield Sports Three County Challenge took place in
Carrick on Suir on Friday evening last and there was an entry of 180.
The Carraig Hotel 5 miles was won decisively by Alan O'Shea from
Bantry in 25 minutes 46 seconds, Frank Quinlan Waterford AC ran very
well to finish second in 26.38 and David Ryan Clonmel was third in
26.56. Siobhan O'Doherty Borrisokane won the ladies section in 28.19.
Dympna Ryan, Dundrum was second in 29.33 and Angela McCann Clonmel
third in 31.08

weather and superbly organised by the Carrick on Suir Road Runners
with the help of the Gardai and Red Cross.

Munster  Fixture in Templemore

 The Munster U/14 to U/19 Track & Field Championships are in
Templemore, Co Tipperary on  Saturday and Sunday next and on both days
the hammer competition begins at 9.30 am and the main programme at 11
am. Lots of athletes from Waterford clubs will be participating and
full programme is on Munster Athletics website.On Thursday June 20 th
the new Track at the RSC will be officially opened at 4 pm and a small
number of athletic events will be organised for the event due to the
timescale between 3.30 pm and 4.30 pm..all clubs will be notified.

Clashmore 5 Miles on Friday

The 12th Annual Old Still Bar Clashmore 5 Miles.is on Friday next June
14 th This is race 6 of the Ger Wyley/Nike Sports Summer Series. The
race starts at 8 pm in the village of Clashmore. Entries will be taken
at the Old Still Bar in the village and the entry fee is 5 EURO.
Refreshments and the prize-giving will take place at the Old Still Bar
after the race.

Fenor 15 km on Sunday

The challenging 15 km course covers a novel distance (9.3 miles) and
is designed to be the perfect prep' for those doing the Waterford
Viking Marathon a fortnight later. Also, anyone training up to do a
half-marathon, as well as regular middle distance road runners, or
just those who would like to set themselves a challenge, will find the
Fenor 15 ideal.. There will be chip timing and a water stop, with
prizes for the first five males/females, and also Category awards will
be presented to the leading men/women finishers aged
over-/40/45/50/55. It starts in Fenor Village Co Waterford at 12
noon.on Sunday next June 16 th. and finishes in Fenor GAA pitch nearby
and limited entry on the day, so come early.

29th International Race Walks,Dublin. Sun 30th Woodie’s DIY AAI Junior
& Under 23 Championships Tullamore.

Road Races coming up

. Clashmore 5 Miles Friday June 14 th Race 6 Ger Wyley Sports Series,
8 pm, Sunday June 16th Fenor GAA 15 km  12 noon. Sunday June 23 rd 12
noon 10 km Pink Rock near Glenmore on Old New Ross Road. Closing date
of  Saturday next June 15 th at 12 pm now gradually approaching for
the Waterford Viking Marathon which takes place on Saturday June 29
th. If you are not in by that date you cannot enter afterwards.
