Good time in Geneva by Thomas Barr Competing at two meetings in Switzerland last week end in 400 Metres Hurdles races Thomas Barr Ferrybank AC had a very good result in Geneva on Saturday when he finished second in his race in a time of 50.80 seconds his second best time over the distance and on Sunday in Chaux de Fonds in terrible weather conditions he was fourth in a time of 52.34 seconds . Thomas is chasing the ( A ) standard of 49.50 for the Olympics and he has until July 8 th to get it ,he tries again this Friday in Huelva in Spain His sister Jessie had a slight injury last week and did not compete but is expected to be back in action this week. Niamh Whelan was competing last week end at the two meetings in Switzerland and in Geneva on Saturday she clocked 12.13 in the 100 metres and 24.27 in the 200 Metres being unplaced in both and on Sunday she clocked 12.44 for the 100 metres again unplaced.   All Ireland School Titles won. Tullamore was the venue for the All Ireland Schools Track and Field finals on Saturday last and athletes from Waterford schools were to the fore.There were six winners and at senior level Ben Kiely Tramore CBS had a great 400 Metres and 400 Metres Hurdles double his winning times being 49.72 and 54.31 respectively, the other winners were Sean Archer St Declan's Kilmacthomas in the Senior Triple Jump with a distance of 13.83 Metres, Kate Veale St Augustine's in the senior 3000 Metres Walk in 13 minutes, Catherine Hahesy do junior Pole Vault with 2.40 metres and Jurijs Kanass do also in the Junior Pole Vault with 3.25 metres.. Silver medal winners were Lce Houlihan St Augustine's Senior Pole Vault, Sorcha Murphy Stella Maris Tramore Senior High Jump, Aisling Quinn Ursuline Intermediate 1500 Metres and Laura Connors Ard Scoil na nDeise Intermediate High Jump and bronze medal winners were Ciara Scanlon Ard Scoil na na nDeise, Senior Hammer, Liz Devine St Augustine's Intermediate Triple Jump, Megan Dunford do Junior Pole Vault, Orla Queally Stella Maris Intermediate 800 M, Patrick O'Neill Abbey CC Junior 200 metres, Megan O'Connor and Sarah Keoghan St Augustine's  Intermediate Pole Vault and Hayley Fitzsimmons was third in the disability Javelin.  Bralitis wins in Touraneena Two hundred competed in the Annual 5km Road Race in Touraneena on Friday last another race in the Ger Wyley Sports Summers Series organised by the local Racquetball Club. Sandis Bralitis West Waterford AC  was the first man home in 15 minutes 39 seconds, Ravis Zakis do was second in 15.59 and Brian Murphy Carrick on Suir  third in 16.09. Clare Annan Carrick on Suir was first lady home in 18.56, Corina Walsh West Waterford was second in 19.04 and Aine Roche Clonmel third in 20.01. First man over 40 David Kenneally Thurles Crokes , o 45 Andrew Leary West Waterford, o 50 James Veale do, o 55 Colin Lyons do, Junior Damien Murphy do. Ladies o 35 Catherine Rice Clonmel, o40 Diane Behan Waterford AC, o 45 Ann Dunford West Waterford, o 50 Josie Ui Chuirrin do, Junior Kate Nolan Waterford AC  The Anne Power Memorial Shield for first home in Walk went to Gearoid Hallinan. Kate Selected Athletics Ireland have pre selected five athletes for the World Junior Championships which will be held in Barcelona  from 10 th to 15 th July and Kate Veale West Waterford is among them, she competes in the 10 km Walk. Anyone else who is chasing the Qualification standard has until July 2 nd to achieve it. Both Thomas and Jessie Barr have qualifying times in the 400 Metres Hurdles  for the European Championships in Helsinki from June 27 th to July 1 st and closing date for qualification is June 17 th. For the Olympics athletes have until July 8 th to achieve the ( A ) Standard which the Irish Olympic Council have said athletes must achieve.    National League begins. The first round of the National Senior League is on Sunday next at two venues Tullamore and the Antrim Forum, Ferrybank AC and West Waterford will have teams competing. The Ferrybank men's and women's teams are in the Premier Division and West Waterford men and women are in Division One, all these teams compete in Tullamore with a 10 30 am start.. Munster Juvenile Championships this week end Cork IT Track is the venue this week end for the Munster Juvenile Track and Field Championships for the lower ages. These are under 9 to 11 Team games and under 12 and under 13 Individual Championships. The fixture begins both days at 11am and lots of Waterford athletes competing. Kilmacow Road Race. On Sunday next June 19 th the 11 th Annual Little South 4 miles Road Race is in Kilmacow Co Kilkenny at 2 pm. Entries will be taken from 12.45 pm at the Sports Hall in Kilmacow village.  In Ballyneale near Carrick on Suir on Friday evening of this week June 8 th  the first race in the Oatfield Sports Series the Champion Kiely 5 KM has a  7.30 pm start Workshops. Tuesday June 5th Walks at Watershed Track, Scanlon Track Kilkenny.7.30 to 9.30 pm Registration 7.15 pm to 7.30 pm. Wednesday June 6th Pole Vault St Abban's AC  Sports Complex Monavea, Crettyard Co Laois 7 to 10 pm Registration from 6.45 pm to 7 pm Thursday June 7 th at same venue as the 6th, Shot Discus and Javelin  6 to 10 pm, Registration 5.45 pm to 6 pm. Monday June 11 th Sprints/Hurdles again at same venue 6.30 pm to 9.30 pm, registration from 6.15 pm to 6.30 pm. Tuesday June 12 th Long Jump, High Jump, Sprints and Hurdles  at Rosslare Strand Community Centre Track 6pm to 9.30 pm Registration 6.15 pm to 6.30 pm. All sessions open to all athletes/coaches aged 12+ only and the cost is €5 payable at registration. National Coaches will take each session .Further  Fixtures .
