Five Munster Titles won in Carriganore

 On Sunday last the Munster Cross Country Championship fixture at
WITCarriganore was held in excellent conditions and over a great
courseand a huge number of athletes from all over Munster competed and
largenumbers of spectators were present also. For Waterford athletics
itwas very successful day with five individual winners and
WestWaterford won three inter club team titles at juvenile level
andretained the title of best juvenile club in the province. All
theindividual winners won their events very impressively with
Waterford
athletes taking the two Intermediate titles with ease. Laura Behan KCK
and Andrew Connick, Ferrybank had their races won long before the
finish. Regular winner Aisling Quinn, Ferrybank also won readily u 17
as did Orna Murray do u 19. The final winner was Jack Corcoran
Waterford AC in the under 9 event and he did it in style with a
terrific burst in the last hundred yards to win going away. Aoife
Hamilton West Waterford was second under 15 and Sean Hickey do was 3rd
under 11. Other high placings came from Hugo Blair Waterford u 13 and
Orla Queally Ferrybank u 17 both 4th, Eoin Browne was 5th u 17 and
Nicole Rowe was also 5 th u 19 both Ferrybank AC and 6 th placings
went to Lucy Holmes, West Waterford u 11,Lucy O.Brien do u 19, Hannah
Power do was 8 th u 15 as was Cormac Mahony do u 11, Ethan Flynn
Waterford was 9 th u 11 and tenth placings went to Ellen Boylan KCK u
9, D J Kiely u 11 and Meg Ryan u 1 5, AoifeO'Brien u 13  all  West
Waterford. In the inter club team juvenile competitions West Waterford
AC won the boys u 11, Boys u 9, Girls u 15 and  were third in the boys
u 17 while Ferrybank were third u 13 Girls. In Inter County team
competitions Waterford were second u 11 boys and u 15 girls and third
u 9 boys and u 17 boys A sincere thanks to the very many who helped
out on the day in many ways and those that came along on Saturday to
mark out the course from various clubs, all the clubs that provided
stakes, flags etc, Order of Malta.  A very
special thank you to the Management at WIT, Paul Quirke and
MichaelEvans Manager of the Sports Campus and staff for providing
their excellent facility for the event and to Tom O'Brien for a major
input for weeks and to Tom Murray course designer

Mc Carthy in Spain

David McCarthy West Waterford AC ran in a major International Cross
country race in Burgos in Spain on Sunday last and did very well
tofinish 18 th in a field of 137 the first of four Irish athletes
home,Several top International athletes were in the field including
the
reigning World Cross Country Champion Imane Merga who won the race by
inches in 28.07

Brickey 5 Miles

The 19 th Annual McGrath Newsagents Brickey's 5 Miles Road Race
heldoutside Dungarvan on Sunday last was won by Philip Harty in
27.54,Dzintars Klava was second in 29.35 and Tom Bennett third in
29.49 allWest Waterford. First Lady Angela Mc Cann, Clonmel in 32.02,
DeirdreNi Chearbhaill Crusaders was second in 36.32 and Orla O'
Mahoney WestWaterford  third in 38.23. The 3 miles results were: Men 1
John Leahy
West Waterford 2 Brian Cuddihy Waterford 3 Pat Fitzgerald West
Waterford and Women 1 Robyn Madole West Waterford, 2  Andrea Gaffney
do, 3 Tracey Dwyer do..

Another good run by Quinn.

On Friday last competing in the North Eastern Regional American
Collegiate Cross Country Championships in Madison Connecticut there
was another fine run by Shane Quinn representing Providence College.In
a field of 240 runners from 34 Universities and Colleges he finished
third overall in the 10 km event in a time of 30 minutes 18.9 seconds.
The race was won by Mitch Goose a Britain from Iona College in 30.04.5
with Maksim Keraleu Harvard University second in 30.16.2.In the team
section Providence were 5 th of the 34 teams

Winter league

There was a great entry of almost 500 for the first round of the Paddy
Byrne Winter League in the city on Thursday last, the event continues
this Thursday at the RSC at 7 pm, registration from 6.15 pm. .

All Ireland Cross Country Dates

Sunday week November 25 th Woodies DIY AAI Inter Counties and
Juvenileu12,14,16,18 Cross Country,Tattersalls, Ratoath, Co. Meath,
Sun 9 th December Novice and Juvenile u 11,13,15,17,19, Cross
Country,Adamstown, Co. Wexford. The European Cross Country
Championships will be in Budapest the same day.

Waterford AC Half Marathon

The above race is on Saturday December 1 st  at 11 am and entries
having reached the ceiling of 1500 have now closed. Starting outside
Kelliher Electrical Tramore Road and finishing at Kingfisher entrance
