On Saturday last the second annual WLRFM Marathon, Half Marathon and
Relay event had a total entry of 2000 and it was a fantastic event
with crowds out all along the route and at the finish at the RSC to
cheer on the runners, all sections began outside City Hall at 9 am.
Many of those competing were raising funds for local and National
Charities while the beneficiaries from the event were Waterford
Alzheimer Society and Waterford Hospice .From an early stage in the
race four Half Marathon runners led the field Ravis Zakis West
Waterford, Michael Morgan St Finbarr's Brian Murphy Carrick on Suir
and Edmond Burke Waterford AC home from the USA on Holidays while hot
favourite Gary O'Hanlon led the Marathon runners and he together with
George Waugh Bandon and Frank Quinlan broke away after  6  miles and
O'Hanlon eventually won easily in 2 hrs 28 minutes and 5 seconds -his
6th Marathon win this year, Waugh was second in 2.36.36 and Quilnlan
was third in 2.49.12, Finlay Weir Waterford AC was 6th. Olympian
Pauline Curley Tullamore again the favourite won the ladies race
decisively in 2.49.39, Ann Marie Holland St Finbarr's was second in 2
59.37 and Ann Marie O'Grady KCH was third in 3.19.45, Mary Jennings
Waterford AC was 7 th. and first over 55 The Half Marathon was again
easily won by Ravis Zakis West Waterford in 1.13.05, Michael Morgan St
Finbarr's Cork was second in 1.14.49 and Brian Murphy Carrick on Suir
third in 1.15.07, Edmond Burke Waterford AC  home on holidays from USA
was fourth and Trevor Power do 5th. Teresa Agar St Abban's Laois led
the ladies home in 1.28.34, Susan Finn was second in 1.14.49 and Maria
Murphy Griffin St Joseph's was third in 1.29.38, Kate Nolan Waterford
AC was fifth, Liz Nyhan West Waterford 6th and Sarah Lee Waterford 9

Kelly at European Combined Events

Over two days last week end Kelly Proper was representing Ireland in
Madeira in Portugal in the European Combined Events League and she did
quite well finishing 6 th overall with 5429 points, just 13 pts short
of her best ever performance, the event was won by a Croatian athlete
with 5547 pts. Kelly had the best long jump in the competition of 6.19
metres and also was first  in the200 metres in 24.12 seconds  .

Jessie wins twice in France

On Saturday and Sunday last Jessie Barr competed at two meetings at
separate venues in France in 400 metres hurdles races and won both. On
Saturday in Quatrache Tarare she clocked 56.76 seconds and on Sunday
in Champery she clocked 56.74 a season's best.

All Ireland titles won.

In Tullamore on Sunday last athletes from Ferrybank AC were in fine
form at the All Ireland under 23 and Junior Championships. At under 23
level there were three winners; Thomas Barr in  the 400 metres hurdles
in 51.94 seconds, Shane O'Dwyer High Jum 1.90 metres and Sean Archer
in triple jump with 13.40 metres and in the junior grade Ben Kiely won
the 400 metres hurdles in 54.04 last week he got a second European b
qualifying standard of 53.43 at a meeting in Dublin. Ben's twin sister
Megan was second in the 400 metres hurdles and Neasa Murphy third in
the high jump.Lisa  Houlihan West Waterford won the Pole Vault u 23
and Kevin Fitzgerald Waterford AC was second in the u 23 javelin.

Tailtean Interprovincial

A number of athletes from Waterford schools were on the Munster team
for the Tailteann Schools Inter provincial in Tullamore on Saturday
last.There were two winners both from St Augustine's College in the
pole vault Meg O'Connor and Seamie Fennell and in second position
behind Fennell was another from St Augustine's Jurig Kanass and
Catherine Hahessy again from the same school was third behind
O'Connor,.Niamh Mc Nichol Stella Maris Tramore was second in the 200
metres and third in the 100 metres, Neasa Murphy do was second in the
high jump and Orlaith O'Brien Ursuline was second in the javelin

All Ireland Juvenile Team Games

A small number of athletes from Ferrybank AC and Waterford AC
travelled to Stranolar in Donegal on Saturday last for the all Ireland
under 9 to 11 team games .The Ferrybank AC duo of Praise Owoye and
Rachel Walsh won the 60 metres and long jump  u 11 and Jack Deegan and
Victory Eddy Waterford Ac were second in the 60 metres u 11

All Ireland Juvenile Championships this week end

On Saturday and Sunday next the All Ireland Juvenile Track and Field
Championships are in Tullamore and there will be lots of athletes from
all the Waterford clubs competing over two very long days of
competition.against Ireland's best young athletes. The age groups are
under 12 to 19 and the full programme is available on the Athletic
Ireland Website or i-under the Juvenile Competition Booklet, the
organisers reserve the right to alter programme if the occasion
demands, Check in on Saturday for hurdles closes at 9.15 am and on
Sunday at 9.45 am.events both days begin at 10 am.

Cork City International  Sports

On Tuesday next July 2 nd the 62 nd Annual Cork City International
Sports has a 5.30 pm start with 300 metres races for under age
athletes and the main programme begins at 6.30 pm at Cork IT Track.
The 2013 Morton Games  takes place in the Morton Stadium, Santry,
Dublin on Wednesday July 17.A whole evening of international track and
field athletics, the 2013 Morton Games highlights include the classic
Morton Mile and a Ladies Mile in a total of 26 events.Waterford
athletes will compete at both fixtures.

14th Annual Glaxosmithkline 5 Miles

 On this Friday July 5 th race 8 in the Ger Wyley Sports Series goes
ahead in Dungarvan at 7.30 pm Its the Glaxosmithkline 5 miles which is
now in its 14th year.Entries will be taken at the Dungarvan United
Football cCub Pavillion, Kilrush, Dungarvan.The first 250 entrants
will receive a Techinical t- shirt. The entry fee is 10 Euro. All
proceeds will be donated to The Jack and Jill Foundation.

Munster Juvenile Development Games.

 Castleisland, Co. Kerry, Sunday 14th July 2013 at 11am. under 9 to u
16 athletes who did not win medals at Munter A Championships are

National half Marathon.

The Woodie’s DIY 2013 National Half Marathon Championships being run
in conjunction with the Rock ‘n’ Roll Dublin Half Marathon will take
place on the 5th of August, 2013 in Dublin’s City Centre. The deadline
for entry for the national half marathon at the discounted price of
€25 closed on 1st of July:• Entries cost €49.00 from 2nd July - 28th
July 2013. The will be no entry on Race Day. All participants receive
a Brooks Technical T-shirt and finisher’s medal. Athletes must be
registered online for the 2013 event:
