STANDOUT PERFORMANCES BY WATERFORD ATHLETES AT UNIVERSITY CHAMPIONSHIPS.


There were outstanding performances by Waterford athletes at last Fridays Irish University Athletics Indoor Championships which were held in AIT International Arena, Athlone .Ferrybank athlete's who were competing for UL included super wins for Niall Tuohy in what was a great 800 race with a time of 1.55.38, Niamh Whelan won the 200 meters in 24.51, Thomas Barr was 1st in the 400 in 46.97 a new personal best. Sorcha Murphy was 3rd in the high jump in 1.64.Sean Archer competing for WIT was 2nd in the triple jump with a new PB jump of 14.02. Shane O'Dwyer was 3rd in the high jump with another PB height of 2.00m .Ciara Cronin UCC was 3rd in the 800 in 2.17.84 while Tom Boucher competing for UCD won the weight for distance with a throw of 8.39 .West Waterford's David Mc Carthy competing for DCU was 2nd in the 1.500 meters in 3.46.37 and he was 3rd in the 800 in 1.55.82 Thomas Houlihan was 2nd in the pole vault competing for CIT. Well done to all.



MUNSTER JUVENILE 9-13 INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS.

The Munster under 9 to under 13 years indoor championships were held last Saturday and Sunday at the Nenagh stadium. Ferrybank’s  Praise Owoeye was 1st under 12 in the long jump and added two silvers in the 60 meters and the shot. Kylie Heinan under 13 won silver in the high jump. Niall Curham took bronze in the 60 meter under 9  also and for Waterford AC. Redeem Eddy under 9 was 1st in the 60 meters and 2nd long jump. Nathan Mackey took Silver in the 60 metres .Jack Corcoran under 11 was 2nd in the 60 m. Jack Deegan under 12 was 1st in the long jump with 4 meters 32  and Victory Eddy under 12 was 2nd in the long jump and 3rd in the 60 meters.



KELLY 3RD IN BRITISH AAA.

At the  British AAA last Sunday Ferrybank’s Kelly Proper jumped an excellent 6,38 meters to take 3rd in the long jump while Niamh Whelan was 5th over 200 with a time of 24.79.

WORLD RECORD FOR JOE GOUGH.

The big news this week on the athletics scene is from the Leinster Indoors in Athlone last Sunday where West Waterford's Joe Gough was competing as a guest. Running his race with the over 50 age category Joe not alone won the race outright but he unbelievably broke the over 60 world record for 800 meters with a Time of 2.14.06 beating the old standard of 2.14.23 held by Horace Grant of the USA .This is the first world record to be broken at the new state of the art indoor arena in Athlone. Joe is now the holder of the Irish ( Masters indoors Athlone 2.14.48) European ( San Sebastian Spain Masters champs  2.14.65) and now  World record over 60 for 800 meters. Joe is now set to run in the world masters in Budapest at the end of March where he is entered in the 800 and 1.500 meters.


PAUL MURPHY WINS STAR AWARD.

At the AAI Juvenile All Star Awards banquet at the Tullamore Court Hotel last night Paul Murphy Ferrybank AC. took the Waterford county star award .



MICHAEL ROCHE CARPETS SERIES.

WATERFORD HOSPICE TO BENEFIT FROM 12TH ANNUAL BAUSCH
AND LOMB SPONSORED KILMACTHOMAS 5 THIS SUNDAY.


On this Sunday February 16th at 11 a.m. the 12th Annual Bausch and Lomb sponsored Kilmacthomas 5 mile road race will take place. All proceeds from the race again this year will be donated to a most worthy cause, Waterford Hospice. Held over the fast Kilmac 5 mile course the race organisers urge runners and joggers to come along and support this year’s benefactors. The event is also race number four in this year’s Michael Roche Carpets series of road races. Its also the final opportunity to enter the series with a small fee of 2 euro. Entries will be taken at the community hall Kilmacthomas at the top of the town from 9.30 am, with the entry fee 8 euro. Shower facilities will also be available in this hall after the event for both men and women. Kirwan’s Bar is the venue for the presentation of prizes and cuppa after. With the help of the very generous sponsorship kindly given by Bausch and Lomb a very attractive prize fund will be on offer for the top competitors and plenty of spots for down the field finishers.

The categories are as follows:

MEN-1st 2nd and 3rd, 1st over 40, 45, 50 and 55

LADIES- 1st 2nd and 3rd, 1st over 35, 40, 45 and 50.


32nd  ANNUAL DEISE COLLEGE DUNGARVAN 10K SUNDAY FEBRUARY 23RD..

The final race in the Michael Roche carpets series, the 32nd Annual Deise College Dungarvan 10K, will take place on Sunday week February 23rd next at 11 am. The Race head quarters this year will change from the Dungarvan Sports Centre to the Dungarvan GAA club house at Cloherane off the N25.where the entries, changing, showers post race refreshments and presentation of prizes will take place. The Michael Roche Carpets overall prizes will also be presented on the day.


ANNE VALLEY 5.

The Annual Anne Valley 5 mile is fixed for this Saturday February 15th at 12 noon in Dunhill.
