Munster fixture lost

Munster Athletics had allocated the Munster Senior and Masters Track and Field Championships to the RSC in Waterford for June 19 th but have now transferred it to Templemore Co Tipperary due to the Track etc in Waterford not being suitable. The track at the RSC is laid since 2006 and within a very short period it was obvious that it was not a great job, other tracks laid around the country have lasted much longer. It is understood that efforts are being made by Waterford City Council to receive funding to resurface the track and this would get 100 % support from the County Board and all clubs in the County and adjoining counties also, then major championships would be allocated to the RSC. A word of caution however to all those that would use such a facility especially for training. The length of time such a facility would last depends on the respect and treatment it gets from all who use it. If the same areas are used constantly, the same lanes etc and with incorrect spikes then the problem will arise fairly quickly again and other sports using the facility must also be aware of the sensitivity of the track. Maintenance and respect of all such tracks are clearly defined by the IAAF .
