Roundup by Fintan Walsh, county PRO


 Maireads new Irish record.

 Last week end Mairead Murphy Ferrybank AC currently at Kansas StateUniversity set a new Irish Senior record in the Heptathlon placing 4thoverall in the Big 12 Conference in Kansas she had a total of5399points to record the best ever score by an Irish lady in the
Heptathlon. (13.88 seconds in 100 metres Hurdles, 1.63 M, in High
Jump, 11.31 in Shot Putt, 24.61, in 200 M, 5.66M , in Long Jump,
31.59 M in Javelin., 2min.18.8 seconds in 800 M). She has added 5
points to the old record held by Sharon Foley back in 1997. 

County Championships

 Day One of the County Championships at the RSC on Sunday last
attracted a great crowd of athletes from all the clubs in the county
and each club had athletes in the winners enclosure. For Ferrybank
Sean Archer won five titles between junior and senior, Paul Murphy
four u 18, Cormac Mc Cann three u 15,doubles were recorded by Fiona Egboko u 12, Molly Hutchinson u13, Conor Giles Doran u 14John Halley junior. West Waterford athletes to score doubles were Kate Mc Grath, Jurys Kanass u 16, Kate Hickey Junior and u 18 for Tramore Niamh Mc Nicoll won two titles u 16 and Brendan Leahy Waterford Ac won two masters titles. Athletes to impress for An Ghaltacht were Ciaran O'Maoileoin u 14 and Thomas Ahearn u 13 while Kylie Heinen KCK u 11also caught the eye. Full set of results are now with all clubs..

East Munster Boy's Championships

On Wednesday last May 9th the East Munster Secondary School Boys Championships were at the RSC and athletes from Waterford schools captured the major share of the titles. Doubles were recorded by the following athletes: Senior Ben Kiely Tramore CBS 400 Metres and 400Metres Hurdles the latter with a new record of 54.50 seconds, John Halley St Declan's Kilmacthomas had a sprint double in the 100 and 200Metres, Sean Archer do won the Long Jump and Triple Jump and Jamie Walsh St Augustine's the Shot Putt and Discus. Intermediate Paul Murphy 400 and 400 M Hurdles, Shane Kenneally Shot Putt and Discus both St Augustine's and in the junior grade Jamie Mc Kelvie do won the Discus and Hammer, Darragh Mc Grath St Augustine's also had a double n the Junior Triple Jump and Minor 800 Metres The other winners were:Senior Hammer, Laurence Fennell St Augustine's, Intermediate: 200 M Stephen Walsh St Declan's, 800 M Robbie Mulligan St Augustine's, 1500m Muiris De Paor, CBS Dungarvan, 1500 M Steeplechase Tholm Reddy do,High Jump Conor Vogelaar Newtown, Long Jump Stephen Whittle De La Salle, Hammer Alan Mc Mahon St Augustine's, Relay St Augustine's,1Mile u 16 Eoin Browne CBS Dungarvan, Junior 200 M Patrick O'Neil Abbey CC, 800 M Aaron Vogelaar Newtown, 1500 M Tadg Brennan De LaSalle, High Jump Patrick Stokes St Paul's, Long Jump Chris Noonan, do,Shot Putt Kezyszof Wagner CBS Dungarvan, Javelin Michael Dineen De LaSalle, Relay CBS Tramore, Minor 100 M Miracle Duru CBS Tramore, LongJump Sean Murray CBS Dungarvan, Relay St Augustine's In all fourgrades Minor, Junior, Intermediate and Senior St Augustine's were the overall cup winners and Dungarvan CBS won the Bro O'Donovan Cup .


Munster titles won

On May Bank Holiday Monday there were a number of athletes from
Waterford Clubs who won titles and also collected silver and bronze
medals at the Munster Championship fixture in Castleisland. For West Waterford Lisa Houlihan won the junior Pole Vault and was second in the 100 M Hurdles, Clare Collins won the u 23 Pole Vault, Thomas Houlihan the Junior Pole Vault and Kate Hickey was third in the junior Discus. For Ferrybank Ciara Cronin back in action again won the under23  800 metres, Sean Archer won the Junior Triple Jump, John Hally was second in the Junior 200 metres and third in the 100 metres. In the Juvenile Combined  Events there were two winners Cormac Mc Cann u15and Tom Gallagher u 12  and Fiona Egboko was second under 12  allFerrybank and for Waterford AC Cathal Scanlon was third u 11 and Gwyneth Blair third u 15.

USA Results

Mary O'Connor finished third in the 800 metres at the America East
Outdoor Championships in Orono ME recently in a personal best time of2 minutes 9.48 seconds. At the Atlantic 10 Conference - Amherst, MA Kalyn Sheehan won the 100 Metres Hurdles in 13.91 seconds and finished5 th in the 400 Metres Hurdles final in 61.23. In Tampa Florida at the Big East Championships David McCarthy was 8 th in the 10000 Metres final in 33.14.97

Day Two of County Championships on Sunday

The RSC is the venue on Sunday next for the second section of the
County Track and Field Championships and again there are numerous events for Juveniles, Juniors, Seniors and Masters with the first event at 11 am. Full programme of events is with all clubs for past two months and again lots of help required on Sunday from all
clubs.The Munster schools Finals are at Cork IT on Saturday next.

Just over six weeks now to go to the Waterford Viking Marathon on
Saturday June 30 th and entries still keep coming in and are

National league Dates Announced
